What you should know about Mozy before you sign up to use them for backups.

I use Mozy because it's cheap, off-site backup.

What you should know before you use them is that, if you lose a file, Mozy will not give you the restored copy instantly. In fact, as you can see from the message I got below after trying to access a deleted file, it takes Mozy "a substantial amount of time" to restore even 1 file.

I'm not saying it's a deal-breaker. Just letting you know.

Hmm, interesting. I've been thinking about signing up with them for a while. I don't think that the "substantial" wait time is a big deal for me, but thanks for heads up!

I've been trying out backblaze the past week. Seems they have a similar restore queue, but in my case the files were available instantly.

I wonder if this would be different if I wanted to get at more files?

I recommend taking a look at Dropbox. If you have < 100G, it's great.

I use CrashPlan. I looked around for awhile and they seemed to have the best features. They had a special during the holidays, 1 yr with Crash Central for $59. It comes with a desktop app and the backup and restore options work flawlessly.

My "work" HD crashed last week and I was able to restore some critical files immediately. No waiting of whatsoever.
